Actually, It is the Cleanest Village Of Asia.

Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills , district of Meghalaya in North East India.

Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya. Shillong is a beautiful Hill Station as you all Know. Mawlynnong is 90 kms away from Shillong.

Mawlynnong is an ideal village, it is a beautiful place lies on  Indo-Bangladesh Border.

In, 2003 Discover  India  ( Travel Magazine)
claims it Cleanest Village of India.

It is also Called 'GODS OWN GARDEN ' .

It is a very small village almost 100 families lived there.

Village people mantain its beauty.
most of people in Mawlynnong speaks English.
 Here literacy rate is 100 ℅

Small kids clean their surroundings every day with their families,  before rushing to school .

Cleaning their surroundings ,they take it as their responsibility. They learn this habit from their ancestors.

How they keep their village clean?


They use of eco-friendly dustbins, which is kept at every corner of village and infront of their houses.

They made Compost , dried leaves and flowers are collected in a pit and turned into manure .
And leftover food is fed to cows .

Rain water harvesting is encouraged . Smoking and use of Plastic is banned
each house has a toilet.
They also tak donations from tourists for cleaning.

They encourage women empowerment children get their surname from their mother.

Places to visit


Balance rock ,it is a large rock and supported by a small rock.

 Living Root Bridge,  is 300 years old.
And made of rubber tree.

Sky View, is above 85 feet high made by bamboo by the local people of Mawlynnong.

On the top of that view you can enjoy amazing view of waterfalls, hills and also Bangladesh.

Riwai Village and other nearest village are also very beautiful and are centre of attraction for most of the tourists.

Transportation Facility


By Road, you can easily take buses, cabs from Shillong which will take you to the village and you can also visit nearby villages. Through Road side you can experience clean environment and beautiful valleys

By Air, Shillong has airport which is nearest to Mawlynnong, there you can easily find cabs and buses.

Best Time to Visit

Many tourists visit in October and November . Its beauty can experience best in monsoon where you can enjoy lush greenery.

Village people owned a tea shops. Where you  can take  refreshment.

Various Guest houses are  also there for people who wanted to explore its beauty.

 This village is a great inspiration for all villages and also for various cities.
People in this village are very much humble and polite, they welcome their camper (tourists) very warmly.
